WHAT'S A "GATHERING"?

From 21-23 August 2009, Mount Gambier is hosting the 14th Annual Rural Women's Gathering at several venues throughout the city, including the City Hall, Tenison Woods College's newly built Flexible Learning Centre and The Barn.

Women attending from across our state and visitors from other states and territories will have the opportunity to socialise and participate in over 50 different self-development and skills workshops or joining informative local tours. A reasonable cost will cover lunches and snacks over the weekend, workshop participation, tours, entertainment and a three - course dinner on the Saturday night.

The gathering will be officially opened by the Mayoress of Mount Gambier and will also feature Her Excellency Ms Quentin Bryce AC and other inspirational guest speakers throughout the weekend.

Information on the 14th Annual SA Rural Women's Gathering will be updated regulary on the website.

Each year an informal but committed group of women from a nominated region in the state organises "The South Australian Rural Women's Gathering". No one organisation is responsible for the Gathering. It is an opportunity for different groups, organisations and individuals within a community to work together. Gatherings are special because they are community organised, developed, driven, owned and run.

A Gathering offers opportunities for all women, whether they want agricultural information, business information, personal development or a social and recreational opportunity. The strength of a Gathering is in its diversity. A Gathering can help build bridges between women and offer skills and information previously unavailable to them.

Aims of the South Australian Rural Women's Gathering:

Who will attend?

For 2009 we estimate between 250-500 women of all ages and backgrounds to attend the 14th Annual SARWG with the majority from rural backgrounds from across South Australia. This year we are also marketing into Western Victoria. After launching our website we will send our link through to various supporting organisations and networks thereby increasing our exposure to women within these regions.
